Tips Lead to Quick Arrest of Level 2 Sex Offender (Re:NYSCS Case # 2015-10)

On August 21, 2015, New York State Crime Stoppers, working in cooperation with the United States Marshall Service offered a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a violent sex offender who failed to register as a sex offender in Oswego County, N.Y.

John Douglas Tryon a violent sex offender had been convicted of Sodomy 2nd (of a 7 year old child). After serving his sentence in jail he subsequently fled and violated his probation for failing to register as a Level 2 sex offender three times, most recently in 2012.

The United State Marshall Service had recently approached New York State Crime Stoppers to assist them in locating John Tryon. A press release was sent out by New York State Crime Stoppers to local media in the Oswego area including news on Friday, August 21, 2015. A few hours after the press release was issued, citizens who had read the article called the Oswego City Police with tips regarding Tryon’s whereabouts. John Douglas Tryon was located and arrested soon after Oswego City Police received those tips.

This particular case is an example of the successful results that can be achieved when New York State Crime Stoppers, law enforcement, the media and the public work cooperatively together to make New York State communities safer.
